Deane C. Davis Award

This award was created in 1990 by Marilyn Childs and Ruth Towne in honor of Deane C. Davis. The criteria for this award is as follows:

The Deane C. Davis Memorial Award is awarded for dedication to the Morgan Horse. The person must have at least 30 years associated with the Morgan breed as an owner, breeder or contributor to the Morgan cause. All employees of AMHA, AMHI, The Morgan Horse Magazine, as well as professional trainers are ineligible. The honor is to go to a kind of person exemplified by Deane Davis: a person who has a long history of service to the Morgan horse, but that may have made their contribution quietly and steadily over the years.

John Raymond Volunteer Awards

The John Raymond Volunteer Awards are presented to  individuals with who have contributed endless effort and time the Vermont Morgan Horse Association.  The awards are in recognition of John Raymond, a long time member and volunteer for the VMHA.  The awards are presented to individuals who have volunteered their creative efforts, time, and energy to the VMHA  and have worked to increase public awareness and education about the Morgan horse.

W. Lyman Orcutt, Jr. Scholarship Award

The VT Morgan Horse Association, Inc encourages excellence in its members by providing W. Lyman Orcutt, Jr. Scholarship Award each year to an outstanding man or woman who would like to continue to continue their education. The scholarship is for at least one $1,000 scholarship annually. The scholarship will be paid to the recipient and education program  by July 15th, of that current year. The program is open to any man or woman who is a Vermont resident and a member in good standing of the Vermont Morgan Horse Association, Inc. Considered important and selection to be based on the following:

  • Being a Vermont resident
  • Your involvement with the Morgan Horse
  • Morgan promotion/volunteerism
  • Youth Club participation
  • Most recent scholastic achievement
  • Leadership
  • Three letters of reference (non-family) relevant to character, ability, achievement and Morgan involvement .

VMHA Open Awards

VMHA promotes the Morgan Horse for competitors who wish to show at open competitions not limited to Morgans. Annual Awards are given out at the Spring Pot Luck Dinner. Each division has a champion and reserve champion plus places to 6th, In recent years the top three in each division have received monogrammed clothing with the division, horse and owner's name.
