  • Buddleia x weyeriana Honeycomb has an interesting botanical pedigree. It is often presented as a cultivar of a unique Buddleia species, however, it is actually a cultivar of a generational hybrid of the original early B. davidii x B. globulosa cross developed in the 1920s. The award-winning result is a sprawling, cold-tolerant, non-invasive shrub that produces an amazing display of large, cream, honey and gold, nectar-rich blooms.
  • Honeycomb can be distinguished from other Buddleias by its distinctive, larger, softer leaves, its tall, flexible, weeping limbs, and large terminal panicles. It can be used as a large, flowering boundary or privacy hedge, a background in layered and mixed perennial beds, grown as a single-trunk patio standard tree, or as a large outdoor garden pot. It is a suitable, non-invasive choice for Butterfly Gardens and wildlife habitats.
  • Care: When mature, plant in fertile, well-draining soil or media in a full sun to lightly shade. Water as needed to maintain consistent soil moisture, but avoid overwatering. Feed a good-quality, slow-release, bloom-boosting fertilizer at the initial planting and annually in spring thereafter. Prune after flowering to control size, shape, and remove seeds. Protect young plants from direct hot sun to avoid drying and burning of tender foliage.
  • Indoor Growing: This plant grows large and requires the full spectrum of light, 4 to 6 hours daily, high humidity, and warm temperatures with at least 10°F day/night differential and a mild chilling period during winter to produce flowers, so they are not well-suited to be grown indoors.
  • Climate: Buddleias are recommended for USDA Zones 6, 7, 8, 9. Generally, well-established plants freeze to the ground and resprout in the Spring in Zones 6 and 7. Elsewhere, it retains leaves, but goes through a semi-dormant resting phase. Plant early in the season and protect from cold until established.
