Amazon.com Keep Termites at BayWhether you live in the north or south, or have a new or old house, your home is a target for termites. They can enter your home through tiny cracks in the foundation, utility entry points, or anywhere that soil contacts wood. Spectracide Terminate Termite Detection & Killing Stakes are the first do-it-yourself termite killing system for subterranean termites. They install in minutes to both detect and kill foraging termites. This kit includes 15 killing stakes, complete with pop-up indicators of termite activity, a digging auger, informational materials on termite behavior and identifying termite damage, and graph paper to plot the placement of your stakes for monitoring. Replacement stakes are available (sold separately). How It WorksSpectracide Terminate Termite Detection & Killing Stakes are made with hexaflumuron, an insect growth regulator that stops termite growth and interferes with the formation of the termite's exoskeleton. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has classified hexaflumuron as a reduced-risk pesticide, meaning it is believed to pose less risk to human health and the environment than existing conventional alternatives.Spectracide Terminate products are not recommended as sole protection against termites. If you have an active termite infestation, you should get a professional inspection.Use RecommendationsUsing the enclosed auger, dig holes 2 to 3 feet away from the foundation and no more than 10 feet apart. Insert the stakes into the holes, and then monitor the pop-up termite indicators to see termite activity. The termite indicator will pop up if the bait inside has been disturbed. To confirm, pull the stake from the ground, clean dirt off of it, and hold it up to the light to see inside. If any material inside is missing or if the bait appears to be tattered, termites have been active.Monitor each stake every three months, or monthly if you live in an area suspected to contain Formosan subterranean termites. The green locator shields attached to the stakes will make it easier to find and check the stakes. It's OK to place the stakes around a vegetable garden. However, you should avoid placing the stakes where there's a possibility of contaminating food, such as on countertops or outdoor tables. If evidence of termite activity is found in any stake, replace the active stake with a new one and install additional stakes within 1 foot of the infested stake (replacement stakes are sold separately if needed). Whether you have seen termite activity in them or not, all stakes must be replaced every 12 months for efficacy. If you have not been inspecting your stakes periodically and notice that some of the indicators have popped up, get a professional inspection. If there is no longer bait in one or more of the stakes, you are no longer protected from subterranean termites.
